How To Determine Human Hair Extensions Quality

Fashion Blog Tue May 12 2020

Hair extensions are more popular than ever at the moment. Here are some tips that will help you to determine the quality of hair extensions that you buy.

Firstly, try the flame or burn test

Now, let’s me explain to you. This test can be the easiest way to determine if you had bought a real with good quality of hair or not. You just pull a couple of long strands of hair out and hold them above the candle or the lighter of flame. This is the way to determine, if the hair singes or burns upwards while smelling like burnt hair. Then it is real. If not, (they are melted into a ball and smells like a burning plastic, then it is definitely the synthetic hair).

Secondly, consider the cost of hair extensions

This is another way to determine the quality of hair which is also very simple.

Based on how much it costs, you can determine the hair extensions is high quality or not. Normally, most of the wholesale hair vendors nowadays sell the the real hair extensions. Comparing the fake hair extensions and the real hair extensions, the prices of synthetic ones will always be cheaper than the prices of real hair extensions. But you need to make sure that you bought your hair extensions at the reliable store. Your hair extensions will always be guaranteed. However, if you buy at the untrusted vendors, it is hard to know your hair extensions quality by this ways.

Thirdly, hair extensions still have the cuticles intact

It shows that the hair extensions are Remy hair. Virgin hair extensions still have the cuticles intact and aligned from the root to tip. This is what makes them easy to brush and style. A single human hair is made up of a natural protein called keratin. The hair cuticle is the outer layer of the hair which can protect the inner layers of the hair.

Forth, see the thickness and length

High quality hair extensions should be the same thickness from the top to bottom. They should not look as if they have already been layered or styled. To test the consistency of the hair, hold up a weft to the light. If you can see the weft has plenty of gaps or the ends look thin, then it is likely that these are not the most high quality extensions on the market.

Another way to determine if the extensions are high quality is to look at the percentage of full length wefts. For example, average quality hair extensions measuring 18 inches may only have 20% of the strands that are actually 18 inches long. These are called single drawn hair extensions. The remaining percentage of hair can vary in length.

Superior quality hair extensions are double drawn. This means the extensions have a much higher percentage of longer, evenly measured hair. The short hairs are removed to ensure the length and thickness is consistent from root to end.
