Tape-in hair extensions are becoming very popular. They are the solution for people who want to get thicker and more voluminous hair without booking a hairstylist. Although they are very convenient and easy to use on medium or long hair, blend tape-in extensions on short hair is a serious challenge for newbies. Understanding your problem, I write this post to help you know why tape-in extensions are the best for short hair and tips to blend them on short hair.

Why Tape-In Extensions Are The Best For Short Hair?

Versatility

Tape-in extensions are one of the most common hair extensions. It's very easy to buy a pack of tape-in hair extensions in store or even online. Due to the high demand for these extensions, most hair extension suppliers offer a wide range of options. This means that regardless of your specific requirements or preferences, you're likely to find a product that suits your needs. This variety extends to everything from length and texture to color. Whether your desired look involves long or short hair, curly or straight, black or colorful, there's a high probability that you'll be able to achieve it using tape-in hair extensions.

Why Tape-in Extensions Are The Best For Short Hair?

Seamless blend

One of the main reasons why tape-in hair extensions are widely used is their ability to seamlessly blend. Because of the thin tape, this type of hair extension can be blended naturally, even if your hair is short. They lie flat against the head, and there are no obvious bumps or lumps, giving you a more natural look. When the color and texture of the tape-in extensions match your natural hair, they integrate flawlessly, allowing you to enjoy a cohesive and undetectable look.

Easy to apply

Tape-in extensions consist of hair pieces that are pre-taped and then taped/glued together on either side of your own hair. They are incredibly easy to apply, taking less than an hour for a full head. This aspect is particularly appealing to those with short hair, as they can quickly add volume or length without spending hours at a salon.

Reusability

One of the significant advantages of tape-in hair extensions for short hair is their reusability. Short hair tends to grow faster, which can result in your extensions becoming mismatched with your natural hair over time. Given the investment in high-quality extensions, maximizing their lifespan is crucial. With tape-in extensions, you can reuse them up to six times. Simply remove the extensions, cut off the old tape, and use adhesive to create a fresh bond. This way, your tape-in extensions can continue to serve you, saving you money and ensuring long-lasting results.

Step By Step On How To Install Tape-In Hair Extensions On Short Hair

Step 1

Before placing tape-in extensions on your hair, make sure it is clean and dry without conditioner. Section your hair at the point where you intend to put tape in extensions and fix it.

Step 2

Serction the back into two halves using a rat tail comb. The line should run directly down the center of the skull. Then, split off two sections of hair at the front, forming four quadrants. It is easy to separate lengthy hair. Remember to add a couple additional clips and hold these sections apart for a shorter look.

Step 3

Starting at the bottom on either side, measure three-thirds of an inch, or about two fingers from the hairline. Your first tape piece will be here.

Step 4

Take the tape and pull the tab that protects it; it comes out easily. Take a piece equal to the amount of hair in the extension. Make sure your line is really clean. Pull the hair up, apply the tape, and secure it on the sides. This produces a level surface on which to lay the hair and smooth it out using a rat tail comb.

Step 5

Grab the second piece to uncover the adhesive. All you need to do is place that piece right on top of the previous one and squeeze it together. There will be no need for tools or heat, and the inside will be comfortable, secure, and seamless. When you pull up the hair, you will see that nothing is shown.

Step 6

Since you know how to place the tapes, repeat steps 4 and 5 next to the first tape you installed. Place two additional tapes on each side, higher up. It depends on hair density and how much space you want between each part, but they should be close together.

Step 7

Now, go further higher and section the hair. This is where you may begin the bricklaying pattern by stacking three pieces atop the two you already have. You start with three rows of tape and then go on to two rows. Depending on the required fullness, position each tab about a quarter of an inch apart from the last, bricklaying as many pieces as necessary.

Step 8

Next, proceed to the sides. Continue with your pattern, starting about 2 inches above the ear. When completing the sides, make sure they follow the curvature of the natural hairline. It is also vital to link the back and sides so that there are no gaps. Put one tape between the back and the side to create a seemless flow with no disconnections or gaps.

Step 9

Afterwards, make sure that they are not visible around the hairline. Brush the hair, blend it, and you’re done!

Tips To Blend Tape-in Hair Extensions On Short Hair

Don’t put it on too high or to low

Proper placement of tape-in extensions is crucial for a seamless blend. When blending tape-in hair extensions on short hair, you should avoid putting it on too high at the temple of your head. The short hair cannot cover the attachment well on the top because, for some reasons, your hair on top won’t lay flat enough to cover the tapes. In addition, you shouldn’t put the extensions near the hairline unless people will realize that you’re wearing hair extensions. Instead, position them in a way that allows the natural hair to cover the tape bonds, creating a seamless transition.

Tips To Blend Tape-in Hair Extensions on Short Hair

Cut tape-in extensions into smaller pieces for special section

Short hair often requires more precise blending in specific areas. To achieve a natural look, consider cutting the tape-in extensions into smaller pieces. This will allow you to strategically place them in areas where additional volume or length is needed, such as the sides or crown of the head.

Buy various lengths for a natural blend

The key tip to blend tape-in extensions on short hair is installing various lengths. When selecting tape-in extensions for short hair, opt for a variety of lengths. This will help mimic the natural layering and dimension of your own hair. By blending different lengths, you can achieve a more natural and realistic appearance, ensuring that the extensions seamlessly integrate with your short hairstyle.

For example, only installing 16 inches tape-in hair extensions to 10 inches natural hair is a bad idea. Your natural hair doesn't grow that way. If you do that, your hair will be separated into 2 visible parts, 10 inches and 16 inches. So, to get the natural-looking hair, you have to add various lengths, including 12 inches, 14 inches and 16 inches. The ratio of those extensions depends on your desired look; you can also talk to your stylist to get their advice.

Styling after installing tape-in hair extensions in

Even though your tape-in extensions are almost matching with your natural hair, you have to style your hair after installing to get the seamless look. After installing any hair extensions, you have to curl, straighten, or even cut and trim your hair to get a natural-looking result. If you can do it yourself, meet a skinful stylist.

Remember, achieving a flawless blend with tape-in hair extensions on short hair may require some experimentation and practice. If you're unsure about the placement or blending process, it's best to seek the assistance of a professional hair stylist who specializes in extensions. They can provide expert guidance and ensure that your tape-in extensions blend seamlessly with your short hairstyle.
